Playing the long game.

We believe longlining is the most responsible and sustainable form of commercial fishing practice in operation today.

At Beauline we’re committed to a resilient and successful fleet that delivers fish to market in ways that fit with ever-growing demand, increasingly sophisticated consumer preferences and social priorities that demand we harvest and manage our precious seafood resource with the upmost care.

A vital catch

As populations grow, and demand for high quality protein-rich food soars, the economic importance of our marine resources, and the care and commitment we need to manage our fish stocks into the future, is obvious.

As a vital food source, fish will continue to feature prominently in our diets and on our plates. As we live and work in a world where societies are increasingly sensitive to the sustainability of the food they eat, the integrity with which we source our fish has become paramount.

The fishing industry has been under pressure for decades to meet a burgeoning hunger for fish while managing stringent regulations and operational demands to perform in a sustainable and responsible way.

Longline fishing is recognised as the most responsible and sustainable form of catching wild fish available to the commercial fishing fleet today.

Longline fishing is in scientific terms regarded as a LIFE (Low Impact Fuel Efficient) harvesting method, and is one of the most sustainable ways to harvest wild fish from the ocean.

A precise catch

Longlining is a traditional fishing practice that first appeared over 500 years ago, based on catching single fish on individual hooks.

As a targeted fishing process, longline fishing generally results in higher catch qualities along with comparatively reduced environmental impacts (like by-catch) than other fishing processes.

Individual fish, caught on single hooks, are landed and processed individually - a method of catching and processing fish that generally results in a higher quality, higher value unit of fish.

This catch method fits well with increasing customer demand for both a premium eating experience and the highest standards of food provenance.

An efficient catch

Autolining employs a variety of machinery to automate the longline fishing process. From on- and offboarding lines, to storing, deploying and baiting hooks, autolining can control and monitor all aspects of a longline operation.

Autolining provides huge efficiencies of scale for any fishing operation. Automation standardises the catch process resulting in a more efficient, cost effective and profitable fishing enterprise while improving overall working conditions, reducing crew exposure to potentially dangerous onboard activity, and optimising the use of time and material resources per fish caught.

Baiting, coiling and handling longline gear was a manual operation until early 1970s when O. Mustad & Son developed the Mustad Autoline™ System. The Mustad Autoline™ System mechanised the operation of longline fishing. Since then Mustad has supplied more than 800 systems worldwide and is the world leading manufacturer. The Mustad Autoline™ System is tailor made for each boat.
